Demand for Medical Electronics continues to grow
The demand for electronics in healthcare is increasing rapidly. The increase in chronic diseases and an aging population are the main causes of this. According to Precedence Research, the medical electronics industry was worth approximately $81.6 billion worldwide in 2020. With an expected growth of 11.8%, the international medical electronics market will grow to approximately $248.43 billion by 2030. Staggering amounts that indicate how important the medical sector is for electronics companies.
The interest in medical electronics is also evident from the many registrations for the FHI Medical Electronics event on February 7 in Leusden. It is the first time that we have come together physically and expectations are high. The focus of the event is on the development, regulation and production of medical electronics. The application areas are discussed in detail and we discuss current developments and trends, including cybersecurity, legislation for MDR, wearables and the increase in self-control and monitoring.
Fatal consequences
Plenary speaker Natallia Uzunbajakava by TNO Holst Centre opens the day with a presentation about the importance of wearables for remote monitoring of patient vital functions. Using practical examples, Uzunbajakava shows why certain actors are so critical and how TNO deals with this. A minor electronics error almost always has serious or even fatal consequences, so the demands placed on medical electronics are - rightly - very high.
Needs from hospitals
The plenary morning lecture will be followed by nine substantive presentations on current developments and trends within the field. Consider: safety certification, EMC filtering, circular connectors and the selection of condensers for safety-critical applications.
After the lunch break we repeat the lecture program of the exhibitors. Plenary speaker Erik Gelderblom from RadboudUMC concludes the event with a presentation about the future of medical electronics. He talks from his own experiences about the needs of the medical sector in general and hospitals in particular. What do doctors encounter in practice and what are the opportunities for the medical electronics market?
After the lecture program, we would like to invite you for a snack and a drink with the exhibitors and other visitors.
In the coming newsletters, the plenary speakers will discuss the content of their presentations in more detail. Please contact us for more information and registration to the website. Admission is free, but we do ask you to register in advance via: https://fhi.nl/medischeelektronica/.
