Unemployment in the Netherlands second lowest among rich countries

- The RIVM says that 243,000 positive corona infections were detected in the past week, an increase of 21 percent compared to the previous week. Although this is a new record, the rate of increase is slowing. The reproduction number also decreases.
- In relation to the working population, the Netherlands has the largest number of people in work, it appears figures from the OECD. With an unemployment rate of 2.7 percent, unemployment is only lower in the Czech Republic at 2.2 percent.
- The average Dutch household will lose approximately 40 euros per month in 2022. It has that NIBUD calculated. The declines in purchasing power range from -0.5 percent to -1.9 percent.
- Collectively agreed wages in the Netherlands increased by 2.1 percent over last year as a whole, reports employers' organization AWVN. The organization expects that wages will rise even faster in the coming months as a result of rising inflation.
- Due to the chip shortages, fewer cars have been sold in Europe for the second year in a row. Last year, 9.7 million cars were sold, 200,000 fewer than 2020 and 3 million fewer than 2019, according to figures from ACEA.
