The rapid electrification of heavy‑duty road transport is transforming mobility, driven by advances in battery technology, megawatt‑scale charging systems, and ambitious policy mandates. This keynote will explore the technological landscape enabling the transition to zero‑emission trucks, highlighting evolving charging power levels, battery size and battery chemistry trends, and charging standards, including the Megawatt Charging System (MCS) and pantograph-based charging like (stationery) pantograph up/down and Electric Road System (ERS or eHighways). The talk will outline the challenges and opportunities in the modular design of ultrafast truck charging stations and the potential of medium-voltage solid-state transformer-based charger architecture. Finally, we will look at how MW-level chargers are integrated with PV and storage to create an energy hub, thereby facilitating grid integration and accelerating the decarbonization of heavy-duty transport.
