Producer responsibility: what does this mean for your organization?

Are you the first to introduce electrical appliances, lamps, batteries, accumulators, or solar panels to the Dutch market as a producer, importer, or reseller? Then you fall under the statutory Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR). This means that you are responsible for the collection and recycling of these products when they are discarded.

To comply with this obligation, you register your organization and report annually how many products you place on the Dutch market. Stichting OPEN organizes the collection and processing of discarded products on behalf of affiliated companies, so that materials can be reused.

Are you affiliated with Stichting OPEN? Then you comply with legal obligations and contribute to a national system for the collection, recycling, and reuse of raw materials.

Suzanne Arts-van den Hoven is a specialist in microbiology and biochemistry at food, feed and dairy laboratory NutriControl.
