Electronic equipment is regularly used in environments with moisture, salt, or other corrosive influences. The housing must then provide both protection against external influences and electromagnetic shielding.
Two separate gaskets are often used for this: one for sealing and one for EMC shielding. But which materials are suitable for this, and what technical problems can arise?
In this presentation, we discuss, among other things, galvanic corrosion between different metals, the maintenance of long-term EMC performance, and changes in shielding across different frequency ranges (LF, HF, and UHF). Requirements regarding toxicity and material usage are also addressed.
Which material choices and constructions offer the best balance between EMC performance, corrosion resistance, and lifespan?
