The World of Industry, Technology & Science (WoTS) has grown into a permanent meeting place for professionals from industry, electronics, and laboratory technology. Within the World of Laboratory The emphasis lies on applicable knowledge, new equipment, and training that aligns directly with daily laboratory practice. For lab staff, WoTS offers a combination of technology and training aimed at safe, reproducible, and high-quality work.

An important part of the program consists of workshops where practice and theory come together. One of these is the interactive workshop. Aseptic Working in a Biosafety Cabinet, in which correct aseptic working in a microbiological safety cabinet is central. This subject touches on the core of many laboratory processes in microbiology, cell culture, and (bio)pharmaceutical environments, where contamination control is directly linked to product and patient safety.

Why aseptic working is more than a protocol

Working aseptically in a biosafety cabinet requires more than following standard procedures. Airflows, material positioning, hand movements, and behavioral discipline largely determine whether the protective function of the cabinet is maintained. Even minor deviations can lead to a disruption of the laminar air pattern and, consequently, to an increased risk of contamination. During WoTS, lab staff have the opportunity to thoroughly understand these principles in a practical setting, with explicit attention to human behavior and environmental influences.

Interactive workshop with a focus on practical skills

The workshop Aseptic Working in a Biosafety Cabinet It is structured as an interactive session in which participants are actively involved in analyzing and improving their working methods. Rather than a theoretical lecture, the emphasis is on recognizing critical points when working in the cabinet, such as material arrangement, cleaning, sequence of actions, and behavior during disturbances. Through this hands-on approach, the workshop aligns closely with the daily practice of laboratory staff, from analysts to QC and R&D personnel.

Expertise from Biotech Training Facility

The content approach of the workshop aligns with the training philosophy of Biotech Training Facility, an organization known for practical training in GMP, cleanroom, and aseptic techniques. In their training programs, participants work in realistic laboratory and cleanroom environments, where microbiological monitoring, disinfection, and behavior are addressed integrally. This focus on 'learning by doing' also forms the basis for the workshop during WoTS.

Value for laboratory practice

For laboratory staff working with microbiological safety cabinets, WoTS offers an accessible yet substantively solid opportunity with this workshop to deepen their aseptic skills. Not through abstract guidelines, but through insight into the interaction between people, the cabinet, and the environment. In doing so, WoTS underscores its role as a knowledge platform where theory, technology, and practice converge in the service of safe and reliable laboratory work.
