The pumping and dosing of solvents and other low-viscosity, lean liquids leaves no room for error. Low viscosity, high vapor pressure, and the increased risk of leakage or cavitation make these critical liquids a continuous challenge in the production process. How do you guarantee maximum safety and dosing accuracy within your installation? At WoTS, Suurmond demonstrates how to optimally control these processes.

Solvents such as acetone, toluene, alcohols, and ether are indispensable in the chemical, pharmaceutical, and process industries, but at the same time, they are among the most difficult fluids to handle. Without the proper equipment, their low viscosity, lack of lubricating properties, and rapid evaporation quickly lead to wear on plain bearings or seals, loss of capacity, or unsafe situations on the shop floor.

The three challenges with thin liquids

Three factors play a major role in the safe and accurate dosing of lean liquids:

  • Lubricating capacity: Many thin fluids have hardly any lubricating properties. This places particularly high demands on the material and design of pump components such as plain bearings and shaft seals.
  • Vapor pressure and cavitation: As soon as the pressure in the pump housing drops below the vapor pressure of the liquid, gas bubbles form. This causes vibrations, damage to the internal components, and dosing deviations.
  • Safety and emissions: Leakage of volatile or flammable substances is strictly prohibited, partly due to stricter environmental and safety legislation such as TA-Luft and ATEX.

The solution: Gear pumps built for precision

To move critical fluids with utmost precision, a pulsation-free and consistently performing flow is essential. Gear pumps offer the ideal solution in this regard. Thanks to their volumetric operation, they maintain precise dosing, even with fluids that have a viscosity significantly lower than that of water.

The tandwielpompen van Suurmond zijn specifiek ontwikkeld voor deze veeleisende toepassingen en onderscheiden zich door:

  • Advanced sealing and plain bearing technology: Choose from high-quality mechanical seals, magnetic couplings, or special gaskets that guarantee liquid and vapor tightness. Special internal flushing channels ensure that the lubricating film is maintained.
  • Wear-resistant material combinations: Bearings and shafts made of specially selected materials (such as silicon carbide, zirconia, or specific alloys) prevent wear, even with fluids without lubricating properties.
  • Pulseless dosing: A direct and continuous yield ensures high-quality process control without fluctuations.
