With the introduction of the VNX+ standard (VITA 90), a compact building block for high-performance edge computing is created. The architecture is tailored to modular, robust systems and aligns with SOSA, which is used in defense and other mission-critical applications.
A crucial element is the power supply, which is implemented as a conduction-cooled 19mm narrow plug-in module and designed by Elma for reliable operation under harsh environmental conditions.
Key Specifications:
- Entrance: 18–36 Vdc
- Outputs: +12 V / 12 A; +5 V / 12 A; +3.3 V / 12 A; +3.3 V AUX / 1.8 A
- Total combined power: up to 250 W
- Efficiency: up to approx. 90%
- Topology: single-stage power architecture
- Control & monitoring: power good, enable, fault, module present
- Communication: I²C / SMBus (optional)
- Isolation: 500 Vdc (input–case and input–output)
- Thermal/mechanical: conduction cooled with wedge locks
- Environment: compliant with MIL-STD-810 (temperature, shock, vibration)
- EMC: prepared for MIL-STD-461 (with external filtering)
Optionally, the power supply can be implemented redundantly or extended with power hold-up functionality, so that the system remains operational in the event of a brief interruption of the input voltage. This is particularly relevant in mobile or military platforms where voltage dips may occur.
Thanks to the combination of a compact design, standardized interfaces, and robust construction, the Elma VNX+ power supply forms a key component within modular edge systems.
