The ASHRAE (American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers) Technical Committee published the 5th edition of their Thermal Guidelines for Data Processing Environments in March 2021. Elbert Raben van Rittal is in his presentation extensively discusses the changes/updates in this edition, where the most important change concerns the recommended relative humidity in relation to corrosive gases in data centers, server and computer rooms.

In addition to the usual clarifications, updates, and corrections, the primary updates address air-cooled relative humidity limits, the addition of a new air-cooled class for high-density computing equipment, and several major updates to the liquid cooling chapter.

In October 2019, ASHRAE TC 9.9 published the results of Research Project 1755 (RP-1755), Impact of Gaseous Contamination and High Humidity on the Reliable Operation of Information Technology Equipment in Data Centers. That's quite a mouthful, but what does it mean? In summary, this is a research project focusing on the effect of various gas phase contaminants on silver and copper corrosion in combination with different levels of elevated relative humidity.

After the presentation by Elbert Raben from Rittal, you will be fully informed about the new ASHRAE standard, which will certainly be useful to you in your daily work!
