The third track of IT Infra is called “Future, 5G & mobility”. The speakers of this track zoom in on what the near future will bring when 5G becomes available. Although 5G is still in the starting blocks in the Netherlands, it is already clear that it will have a major impact, especially on the infrastructure side.

Predicting the future is difficult, but estimating the impact of 5G is not. No crystal ball is needed for this. The technical specifications are known and because the technology is already in use in other markets, a good picture can be sketched of what will happen on the Dutch market. What will change for consumers falls outside the scope of IT Infra.

Everyone agrees that 5G leads to more data. Fast communication makes it possible to send more data and if that data can also be processed quickly, this leads to applications that even need more data. More data in combination with high speed and low latency has consequences for the data centers. Kees de Waard will reflect on this in his presentation. 5G and FttH ensure that consumers will send and collect much more data. This means that, among other things, the connectivity of data centers must be dimensioned differently.
