HARTING connectors to UIC 558 standard: robust interfaces for connecting cables for rolling stock
HARTING is expanding its extensive range for railway applications with two interfaces according to UIC 558 (with inserts that can accommodate 13 or 18 pins) and an additional solution with 22 pins and a PE for connecting cables for rolling stock. The new series offer interfaces for remote connection and data transmission lines to hauled passenger trains. The lifelines of railway vehicles transmit data and signals for the external control of lighting, the operation of door opening systems and the transmission of acoustic information and digital data packets.
New IP69 solution passes 500+ hour salt spray test
A key requirement of UIC 558 is that the interfaces must be automatically released above a certain tensile force. This safety feature ensures that the interface halves separate non-destructively when two electrically connected vehicles are moving separately. HARTING UIC 558 connectors are extremely robust, as indicated by the high protection degree of IP69 and the successful passing of the 500-hour salt spray test according to ASTM B117.

Conformity to UIC 558 means that railway vehicles using interfaces that comply with it are equipped to last and can be coupled to vehicles and railway vehicles of different ages at the same time. UIC 558 connectors offer additional safety through a mechanical and visual coding option, which enables trouble-free operation.
The HARTING UIC 558 series also meet all relevant railway standards. This includes IEC 61373, category 2, which stands for adequate protection against shock and vibration. The materials used also meet the fire protection requirements according to IEC 45545 (class: HL3/R23) and the low flammability criteria according to UL-94 V-00.
