The rapid growth of energy storage and DC microgrids demands power electronics that are not only efficient but also scalable and flexible. The EPC 18k 890i from Epic Power has been developed for precisely these types of applications. This bidirectional and galvanically isolated DC/DC converter combines a high efficiency of up to 98% with a compact 3U half-rack design and supports power transfer in both directions.

An important area of application is redox flow batteries. In this case, the stack voltage is relatively low, while high power outputs are required. To efficiently achieve these power levels, multiple converters can be deployed in parallel. Thanks to the modular design and support for Voltage Droop Control, the converters automatically share the load without complex communication between the units.

The EPC 18k 890i supports voltage ranges of 0–90 V on the low side and 650–950 V on the high side, making connection between batteries, DC buses, and energy storage systems easily possible. CAN communication, MPPT functionality, and extensive protections make the converter suitable for battery storage, hydrogen systems, smart grids, and other applications within the energy transition.
