The PTBA 211E ampoule breaking point tester is designed and manufactured in accordance with the DIN EN ISO <9187-1/2:2010> standard. According to this standard, the breaking point of ampoules must be tested to control quality during the production of empty ampoules and prior to the filling process.

A test jaw is moved by a stepper motor into the neck of the ampoule to be tested. The ampoule is then placed on a DIN/ISO compliant support. As soon as the jaw touches the ampoule, the instrument increases the force in a linear velocity mode until the sample breaks, the typical force rate is 10 mm/min. As soon as the ampoule breaks, the maximum force is displayed and printed. The test jaw moves back to the starting position, ready for the next test. Since the operator can enter an automatic restart time, the next test is performed immediately after a new sample is placed on the ampoule holder.

A movable tray holds the ampoule holder; a plexiglass (perspex) screen protects the operator. A built-in lamp illuminates the handling area to facilitate correct placement of the ampoule on the holder. Interchangeable ampoule holders allow testing of all types of ampoules from 1-30 ml.
