TDK introduces third generation 1500 W AC-DC power supply modules with wide input range

TDK Corporation (TSE:6762) announces the introduction of the TDK-Lambda PFE1500FB AC-DC power supply modules with a rated power of 1500 W. This third-generation series of power supplies supports a wide input range of 85 to 305 VAC, allowing them to operate at a rated input voltage of 277 VAC for powering industrial equipment, lighting, and building automation devices. Thanks to the metal base plate, the module can be used in locations where convection or forced air cooling is not possible. It can be mounted in an enclosed outdoor enclosure or in locations where liquid cooling is preferred. The five-sided housing ensures easier thermal management and reduced radiated EMI.

The PFE1500FB features a PMBus interface, enabling remote monitoring ('read' function) and programming ('write' function). This includes setting the output voltage and thresholds for overvoltage, overcurrent, and undervoltage. For higher output current, modules can be connected in parallel using 'droop mode current share'. In this mode, the load is automatically distributed based on a controlled drop in the output voltage. This can also be programmed via the PMBus. Other signals and functions include remote power on/off, a 'power good' signal, and a standby voltage of 9.5 – 14 V, 200 mA. The output voltage can be set between 38.4 and 57.6 V, achieving a typical efficiency of 92 % at an input voltage of 230 VAC. When the output is switched off, the no-load power consumption is 2 W.

The power module measures 157.2 x 89.9 x 15.2 mm (L x W x H) and weighs 540 g. The module is safety certified according to IEC/UL/CSA/EN62368-1 and bears CE and UKCA markings for the Low Voltage, EMC, and RoHS directives. The modules also comply with EN55032-A with external filtering and with the IEC 61000-4 standards for immunity. The isolation voltage between input and output is 3000 VAC; between input and earth it is 2500 VAC; and between output and earth it is 1500 VDC. The series comes with a three-year warranty.
