“What a treat it was to see each other again live to meet!" The reactions to the IT Infra & Telecom Infra event on December 1 in 's-Hertogenbosch were very positive. No fewer than 312 visitors found their way to the 1931 Congress Center where almost forty innovative IT and telecom companies were waiting for them. There was plenty of networking between the lectures, which focused on the future of the Netherlands as a data center country.

Watch the aftermovie about the event below:

It was the first time that telecom infrastructure and IT infrastructure organized an event together. Both visitors and exhibitors are enthusiastic about the collaboration. Project manager Miranda van Wijk: “IT and telecom are inextricably linked; one cannot exist without the other. So it made sense to join forces. This setup generated many new business contacts for the exhibitors and visitors and this was greatly appreciated.” There are positive reactions on social media:

Fiber optic and sustainability
The fifteen substantive lectures were also well attended. This year we had two plenary speakers: Andrew van der Haar and Dirk Harryvan. They spoke about the essential role of fiber optic and sustainability, respectively, for the digital infrastructure. Harryvan sees a bright digital future provided the Netherlands invests more in sustainability. “We often use energy inefficiently. If you start measuring, you will see that a lot of CPU remains unused and that is a shame.” Harryvan showed during his lecture that with smart adjustments to the settings, both the ineffectiveness and inefficiency of servers decrease. Good for the wallet and the environment.

Spicy discussion
Other current topics discussed during the presentations were: 5G, IoT and edge computing. Once again it became clear how much IT and telecom have in common. At the end of the day, Robbert Hoeffnagel led the panel discussion between representatives of the business community, government and an interest group. They discussed the digitalization of Dutch infrastructure and the role of municipalities during this process. A topic that provoked many reactions from the panel members and the audience and about which we are far from finished talking.
