For two days, visitors were informed online about the latest state of affairs regarding automation in and around the laboratory during the LabAutomation online theme days.
Last Tuesday, seven lectures were already on the program. Rik Pepermans spoke about 'innovation 4.0+', including the usefulness of simulations. Glenn Dukel (Synchron Lab Automation) in turn talked about the application of robotics in the lab, while Melanie Vig (Thermo Fisher Scientific) gave a speech about 'automated science'.
Robotics was also discussed in Tom Vercammen's (IS-x Labs) story in which he outlined the benefits of fully automated sample preparation. The webinar by Christian Sampedro (Festo) was closely related to this with an explanation of the dosing principle of 'Pressure over Liquid'. The first day of LabAutomation ended with lectures by Nathaniel Hentz (Artel) and Nazha Bouhafid (PHC Europe) in which pipetting and ULA plates were discussed, among other things.
Day two
There were also many fascinating lectures on the program on Thursday. Jeroen de Haas (LabVantage Analytics) presented the viewer with a number of use cases in which AI is used. Because with which data from the LIMS systems can we predict the future? And what problems can arise? Frédéric Delaruelle (Waters) provided insight into the benefits of closely integrated software systems, while Michel Mees (LabWare), provided an overview of a number of important trends in the field of lab automation.
Maria Savino (Beckman Coulter) and Sandra Baumann (Eppendorf) told the webinar visitors about Covid research and PCR tests, respectively, and the complex process surrounding 'nucleic acid purification'. The theme days ended with interesting contributions from Pedro Echave (PerkinElmer) and Thomas Funke (Funke Analytic Consult), in which they each explained automated workflows.
The theme days gave visitors a nice overall picture of the state of affairs in the field of lab automation, a market that is constantly changing. Hopefully we can hold another physical edition in 2022.
LabNL
And don't forget: at the end of September you can come along for more interesting lectures LabNL in the Jaarbeurs. It's on September 28th conference program focused on lab automation. Registration for the fair and for this program is free of charge and can already be done via this registration form.
