What everyone should know about energy measurement according to ABB
On May 20, IT Infra will take place online. This digital knowledge event is all about computer rooms, data centers and cloud computing. In the seminar 'Smart energy measurement is worth gold', Freek van Alphen, Jan van de Maat and Ed van Minnen of ABB will delve deeper into improvement possibilities around energy consumption in data centers and computer rooms. Trends and developments in the field of energy will also be discussed.

The webinar is practically oriented. “The theme of our webinar is 'measuring is knowing'”, says Van Alphen. “The gist of our story is that if you have a grip on power consumers, savings are possible. You gain insight by measuring and recording the behavior of energy users.”
Measuring provides insight into power consumers. “Based on hard figures, you can make a big difference in the energy consumption in any building, especially in a data center,” Van Alphen explains. “For example, the latest technology makes it possible to collect and monitor data. With this data, system performance can be analyzed and improved on multiple points. We specifically address the various improvement options.”
Energy transition
Trends will also be discussed in the webinar. According to Van Alphen, there are three developments. The first is the measurement and registration of consumption for one of the greatest challenges for our society, the energy transition. The second development is the risk of grid instability. A third trend is the use of energy as a means of trade. “A development that we are currently fully involved in is the registration of energy savings. The reduction of CO2 emissions is an example of smart energy consumption. Image enhancement also fits in nicely with this, because companies convey to their customers that they find sustainability very important. They show that they take their responsibility and customers find that very valuable.”
Another trend is electrification. “Electric driving is gaining popularity daily, the share of fossil fuels is decreasing and investments in solar and wind energy will also continue to grow. These adjustments to the Dutch grid should prevent the power grid from experiencing instability. The power supply must remain constant and clean, because computers and servers consist of highly sensitive equipment. But how do you ensure that you properly mitigate these risks?” The trends will be highlighted in the webinar and the ABB team will explain how they can help companies save and make improvements in the field of energy. The latest innovations will also be discussed.
