Shimadzuโ€™s first ๐—™ourier ๐—งransform ๐—œnfra๐—ฅed spectrophotometer, the FTIR-4000, was launched in 1984.
It featured an air bearing mechanism for smooth moving-mirror operation and could automatically switch between sample-side and reference-side beam measurements. At a time when PCs were not yet widespread, dedicated operation units handled control and the FTIR-4000 offered a breakthrough price below 10 million yen.
A major step forward in bringing FTIR into broader use.
