Power distributors for the electrification of mobile machines and commercial vehicles

Moving into the future with high-voltage technology

Innovative electric drive systems play a crucial role in achieving climate targets and creating greater independence from the standard drives of today. Würth Elektronik ICS is keeping the momentum moving forward in the voltage range of 48 to 1000 volts with its robust and high-performance power distribution units (PDUs).

Alongside digitalisation, autonomous driving and networking, electromobility is one of the four megatrends that is causing a stir not only in the automotive industry, but also for manufacturers of commercial vehicles, construction and agricultural machinery. The European Union is aiming for a 80 to 95 per cent reduction in CO2 by 2050 (compared to 1990), thereby only reinforcing this trend. We support our customers in achieving these goals. To this end, we primarily offer high-voltage solutions in the 48 to 1000 VDC range, for example, high-voltage power distribution units, junction boxes or carrier boards for battery cells, in addition to the traditional products for 12/24-V electrical systems, which are also used in electric vehicles.

High-voltage solutions

Würth Elektronik ICS develops customer-specific high-voltage PDUs to electrify high-performance drive systems. These PDUs ensure stable and secure connections in the voltage range of 60 VDC to 1.000 VDC for optimal distribution of power between battery, on-board charger, inverter and other consumers such as heaters or DC-to-DC converters. The PCB-based solutions in proven press-fit technology deliver space-, cable- and cost-saving designs, low contact resistances and high levels of mechanical stability.

The compact power distribution units are fitted in carefully sealed, corrosion-proof housings, which allows important functions and components to be integrated. These include: fuses and protective devices, pre-charging functions, current, voltage and temperature measurement, insulation monitoring, HVIL and shielding. Parts of battery management can also be integrated into PDUs. This reduces the overall size of the system and makes it more reliable.
