In the design of electronic applications, energy management is one of the puzzles that needs to be solved. Think of things like energy storage, power consumption and peak power. With the increased focus on energy consumption and energy efficiency, this becomes an even bigger challenge. In an application, a battery is often used for long-term energy storage and a capacitor for short-term energy storage and peak power. Both techniques have their advantages and limitations. Jianghai has a complete range of lithium-ion capacitors with properties of a capacitor and a capacity that is in between these two techniques.

One of the advantages of a lithium-ion capacitor over a battery is its characteristic at higher temperatures. At room temperature, a lithium-ion capacitor and a battery are stable, and lose little charge when charged. Both technologies discharge for less than 5% discharge for 2500 hours. At 60 °C, a battery loses 30% of its capacity in the same time and a lithium-ion capacitor will discharge less than 15%.

A second advantage is that you do not have to worry about the risk of thermal runaway with lithium-ion capacitors. A lithium-ion capacitor does not use the metal lithium or lithium oxide, lithium is only used in the production process of the capacitor.

Jianghai offers a wide range of lithium-ion solutions to provide a solution in various applications. This includes radial components with a capacity range of 30 Farad to 220 Farad. For applications in batteries we have Pouches with a range of 1000 Farad to 16000 Farad. We can also build batteries to customer specifications. The lithium-ion capacitors can be used in new applications, but they can also optimize existing applications by, for example, replacing a battery or making a combination with a battery.

As mentioned above, with the capacitor pouches we can configure a battery that can replace a lithium-ion battery or be used together with a lithium-ion battery, for example to enable peak loads in a high power application and thus extend the life of the battery. Both voltage and capacity can be configured to your specification. The capacity packages can be supplied with and without a capacitance management system (CMS), which balances the individual cells during charging and discharging.

An application that Jianghai developed itself, based on a customer request, is a PCB with radial LICs. This small application can supply 1A for 30 seconds at 12V. This product is used in payment terminals as a mini-backup in case of a power failure. It gives the customer 30 seconds to complete payments and the system the opportunity to save all data. The module is so powerful that there is enough power available for the LCD screen. The mini-backup module consists of a CMS and 3 or 6 radial Lithium-Ion capacitors in different configurations for 12V and 24V applications.
