Artificial Intelligence has the potential to transform healthcare by improving diagnostics, streamlining workflows and supporting clinical decision making. Yet, despite the growing number of AI solutions, successful implementation in daily practice remains challenging.
In this session, Jawad Handizi shares practical insights from real world AI implementation projects within healthcare. Rather than focusing solely on the technology, the presentation explores the factors that determine whether AI creates lasting value in clinical practice. Topics include aligning AI with genuine clinical needs, overcoming organisational and technical barriers, managing stakeholder expectations, building strong business cases and validating solutions in real healthcare settings. Supported by practical examples and successful implementation cases, attendees will gain actionable strategies for introducing AI in a sustainable and effective way.

Data in chemistry is scarce, expensive, and rarely comparable between labs, which rules out brute-force approaches commonly used in AI. Moreover, the formulation space for researching new materials grows exponentially, often more than any laboratory could test in a lifetime. Focusing only on automation and improved robotic platforms solves only half of the problem. Big Chemistry brings together robotic high-throughput experimentation and machine learning to explore that space efficiently. The first part of this talk introduces the consortium: its scope, its facilities, and what has been built so far. The second part turns to the AI side. We show how active learning leads an experiment where it is most informative, where such closed loops stand today, and how far autonomy can realistically go. The destination is a laboratory in which the scarce resource is no longer experiments, but good questions.
