Masterclass: Material and defect analysis

A material never fails without reason. There is an underlying cause—contamination, wear, or an incorrect composition—and that cause can be identified, provided you employ the right technique. In this masterclass, you will learn in plain language which analysis technique suits which problem and how to correctly interpret the results.

  • Systematically detect contaminants and defects
  • Choosing the right analysis technique for a specific question
  • Understanding infrared spectroscopy, electron microscopy, and thermal analysis
  • Correctly interpret and explain analysis results

For whom

This training is for analysts, lab technicians, and product developers who examine samples and defects.

Program

Part 1: Techniques and technique selection
What analysis techniques are available: spectroscopy, microscopy with elemental analysis, thermal analysis, and when do you use which one?
How do you translate a research question into the right method?
Part 2: Defect analysis in practice
How do you detect contaminants and defects?
Practical examples of infrared spectroscopy, electron microscopy, and thermal analysis.
Interpret results and explain them with substantiation.

Result

After this masterclass, you will recognize which analysis fits a question and explain what is contained within a material or why it fails.
