Dealing with scope changes in projects

Scope changes are one of the biggest sources of disputes and losses in projects. Work that was not included in the original assignment is carried out without being properly documented. This costs time, money, and relationships. In this training, you will learn how to recognize scope changes in a timely manner, discuss them, and document them correctly, so that the project does not expand unnoticed and the result remains clear for all parties.

Practical and directly applicable, with examples from projects in the technology sector.

  • Recognize scope changes before they unintentionally become additional work
  • Correctly record and account for additional and reduced work
  • Conducting conversations about scope changes professionally
  • Keep the relationship with the client intact
  • Maintaining control over the project outcome

For whom

This training has been developed for project engineers and work planners in the technology sector who deal with agreements between clients and contractors and who want to maintain control over scope and variations.

Program

  • Day 1: What is a scope change and additional/reduced work? When is something additional work and when is it not? What do you include and exclude from the calculation? Setting up the process: identifying, registering, and handling. Customer-focused versus yielding to the customer: how do you maintain the balance?
  • Day 2: The conversation about additional and reduced work. Understanding and influencing your conversation partner's behavior. Best Case and Worst Case Management. Dealing with difficult situations and resistance. Conducting a business conversation without damaging the relationship. Steering towards a positive outcome.

Result

After this training, you will maintain control over the scope and prevent unintended additional work. You will correctly document scope changes, conduct discussions about them with greater confidence, and adjust projects without damaging the relationship with the client.
